Pastor Kim, Sundo took office as the 5th senior pastor in Februaray 28 1971. He was born in Sunchon, Pyungbuk province and always wanted to become a doctor. As a youth he studied medicine but during the Korean War he vowed to serve God since it was He who saved him when he was at the brink of death. Pastor Kim graduated the Methodist Theology Seminary in 1958, served the Chunong Methodist Church and served as an Air Force Chaplain before he came to Kwanglim Church in 1971.

There were 200 registered members when Pastor Kim came to Kwanglim, but it had yet to offer an dedication service for the completion of the church because the payment of land was not settled and the members were drifting spiritually in search for spiritual enrichment.

Under the motto of "A Working Church" Pastor Kim, from the following year he took office, encouraged the members to 'pursue positive faith, serve actively and enjoy close fellowship' which gave people great momentum in following the way of Christ.

Pastor Kim, Sundo always emphasized that the church should grow based not on material prosperity but on spiritual richness. In September 1972 he led a revival meeting which was the greatest one in the Church's history, overflowing with spirit and grace and which gave the church the opportunity to pay off the remainder of the payment for land.

On the 20th anniversary, in 1973, the church dedicated the church to God and decided to build the pastor's residence.

The church prospered after the dedication service and many new members joined the congregation. In 1973 more than 400 people gathered to worship during the main Sunday service and the small group ministry also grew from 6 to 20. From 1974 under the leadership of Pastor Kim the congregation set a goal to increase the membership to 1,000 and gathered in such different occasions as the overnight revival meeting, Wesley rally, staff training, Summer Revival, etc to pray and to prepare themselves to serve according to God's plan.
During the 1970s while the Kangnam area was under development to absorb the increasing Seoul population, Kwanglim church set up Youngdong Jaeil Church (1973) and Immanuel Church(1975) as a missionary center for the newly developing community and latter set up Sangae Church (1976) and Jinju Kwanglim Church (1983) to preach the word of God.

In 1977 the congregation doubled thanks to the evangilism movement aiming for 2,000 congregation and the number of small group ministry grew from 74 from the beginning of the year to 120 at the end of the same year. As the church prospered Pastor Kim focused on disciplining by providing classes for small group ministry, Tuesday Bible study, Wenesday Bible Study and giving presentations on who to preach the Gospel, how to consult. Seminars of church leadership and developing a good marriage, retreat meeting and church official seminar, etc were also provided.
